This committee organizes the Day in the Life of a Nurse^TM program typically held each year on the first Friday of October and also supports the creation of Future Nurses Clubs in South Florida high schools In 2019, the 20th anniversary of the Day in the Life of a Nurse^TM program will take place on Friday, the 4th of October. All hospitals and nursing schools accredited by CCNE or ACEN in Monroe, Miami Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Glades, Hendry, and Martin counties are invited to participate and welcome cohorts of high school or middle school students to their campuses to engage with nurses and learn about the profession. Day in the Life of a Nurse^TM – This annual event provides middle and high school students with a one-day peek at the world of nursing. While the program activities vary per hosting clinical site, students and their teachers, counselors, and chaperones learn about the many career opportunities within the nursing profession through speakers, video presentations, and, of course, through the shadowing experience and hospital tours that are the highlight of the day. At many facilities students also participate in skills lab exercises and are introduced to some of the technology that nurses use daily in managing the care of their patients. Visiting teachers are encouraged to utilize curriculum development materials that are available for participating schools. Please click here to view the Day in the Life of a Nurse^TM lessons that include activities that can be completed prior, during and upon completion of the program. These lessons and activities are intended to be informational, developmental, project-based, and include authentic assessment. They focus on educational achievement, personal/social development, career, and health/community awareness which foster student success.
